BENISE - NIGHTS OF FIRE!!

Experience the passion and heat of Old Havana through music, dance, and explosive production numbers at Benise - Nights of Fire!, presented October 28 at 7:30 PM at The Peabody Auditorium.

Benise - Nights of Fire! is a hot and spicy musical journey through the charming cobblestone streets of Old Havana. Nuevo Flamenco blends with tropical Afro-Cuban rhythms, salsa piano, and Havana Horn as we discover the romanticism of paradise lost… Cuba!

THE IRISH COMEDY TOUR
COMEDY NIGHT BARGAIN!

The Irish Comedy Tour takes the party atmosphere of a Dublin pub and combines it with a boisterous, belly-laugh trio of hilarious comics. For about a 'dub' ($20), Low-Brow Entertainment brings a night of side-splitting humor to the Peabody Auditorium on Saturday, November 21st at 8:00 pm.

The clover - make that clever - comedians, whose ancestors hail from the Emerald Isle, include Detroit native Derek Richards, Boston-born Mike McCarthy, and New Yorker Jim Paquette.
Audiences howl at Richards' tales about his mom's dog, the holidays, and dating a stripper. He has appeared on The Bob & Tom Show, XM and Sirius, and The Weather Channel's Top 10.

McCarthy's no-holds-barred humor has landed him on Comedy Central and Showtime. The 'comedy barbarian,' as he is called, takes no prisoners when it comes to poking fun at society's most sensitive topics.
And finally Paquette, who has fine-tuned his comedy chops across the country as a dueling piano performer, opens the show with riotous original songs that inspire audiences to clap and laugh along.

The irreverent trio, which just released a DVD titled 'Dublin' Over,' has performed at venues across the country, including the 1,500 seat Dream Makers Theatre at Kewadin Casino in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce, Florida, and the Erie Playhouse in Erie, Pennsylvania.
To view a video clip, visit www.theirishcomedytour.com.

The Irish Comedy Tour - they're Irish, they're American, and they're not holding back!

GATEWAY Center for the Arts

Holiday Art Show at Gateway Center

The Gateway Center for the Arts in DeBary will end 2009 with a lighthearted Holiday Show celebrating the wonderful artistic dolls of four 3-D artists - Ginger Roberts, Sandra Oglesby, Nancy Walters and Yolanda Vankaughnet. This dynamic holiday display, which opens Nov. 29, is full of the exacting standards of the National Institute of American Doll Artists, and it's been described by one of the artists as being, 'Mixed media figurative sculpture…combines various interests - puppetry, painting, illustrations and storytelling, and some introspection about the nature of divine soul.'
The holiday doll exhibit will also include two-dimensional art, including the work of popular artist and author Don Nedobeck. and Samuel Ruder. This will be the first time these long-time friends will be in a show together. Ruder is the owner of Jonah's Cats Art Gallery in New Smyrna Beach, and he plans to conduct a one-day workshop at the Gateway during the run of the exhibit.
There will be a wine and cheese reception on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the public is invited. As a special treat, Nedobeck will hold a signing session of his prints and art calendars, which will be on sale in the Gateway Gift Shop.
This unique and charming exhibit will run through Dec 31 at the Gateway Center for the Arts

Gateway Exhibits The Skinny Envelope

The Gateway Center for the Arts in DeBary will feature 11 fiber artists in a new exhibit running Oct. 25 - Nov. 21, 2009. Called 'The Skinny Envelope' - for the artist who did not get the fat envelope filled with forms and regulations for an upcoming exhibit, but instead received notice that the work was not accepted in 'the skinny envelope.' But a work that doesn't make it into one show.

Curator Mary McBride said that Dada (non-traditional) artist Marcel Duchamp, with his ready-made urinal labeled 'Fountain,' refused to accept the standards and practices of an established art system, and today's fiber artists are following his protesting footsteps all the way to the major museums in New York, London, Japan, and, yes, even France - sans the urinal.

What: The Skinny Envelope - Fiber Arts Exhibition
When: October 25 - November 21, 2009, Artists Reception: October 25, 2 - 4 PM
Where: Gateway Center for the Arts, 880 N. Highway 17-92, DeBary, FL 32710, (386) 668-5553

Gateway Center for the Arts in Gateway Park is located at 880 North Highway 17-92 and Saxon Blvd. in DeBary. For information call 386.668.5553 or visit www.gatewaycenterforthearts.org.
